International Programs

English Language Academy

Welcome to our ELA website. We are very happy to share information about the English Language Academy with you.

For new applicants, here is some important information you will need as you prepare your application.

All students are required to show proof of immunization for measles, rubella, mumps and tetanus/diphtheria. No student will be allowed to enroll in courses without complying with this requirement.

Please view http://sr.depaul.edu/immunizations for information about completing the immunization requirement.

The English Language Academy's Intensive English Program

The English Language Academy (ELA) offers English courses and activities that meet the personal and professional goals of our international students. The ELA is a full-time intensive language program focused on the language and academic skills used in university degree programs.

ELA classes are small, usually from 10 to 17 students, and they are taught by expert instructors.

Normally ELA students work in one level for the entire term-10 weeks in Fall, Winter or Spring; 8 weeks in Summer-before passing to the next level.

In the ELA, your level is decided by placement tests given at the beginning of your first term. These tests generally include an Institutional TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and a writing sample.
