DePaul University offers conditional admission (also called joint admission) to qualified undergraduate-level applicants and graduate-level applicants in selected disciplines. DePaul offers conditional admission to students who have been educated in a language other than English and whose academic record qualifies them for admission, but whose level of English proficiency as measured by the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is lower than admission requirements.
Students who accept conditional admission must study at the English Language Academy until they demonstrate English proficiency either on an Institutional TOEFL administered at the end of every quarter or on the regular TOEFL iBT offered by the Educational Testing Service. Many students satisfy this requirement in one quarter of full-time study at the ELA.
