Clear communication is essential for interaction in any language. The Pronunciation Workshop provides an opportunity for individualized, intensive practice in recognizing and producing correct English in a classroom atmosphere of fun and hard work. This is a non-credit certificate course offered by the ELA. Enrollment in this class is limited to 10.

This course will familiarize you with the format of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and teach you test-taking strategies that will improve your TOEFL score. Students' needs will be diagnosed in practice tests, and the class will emphasize skills that are directly related to the all four sections of the TOEFL iBT: writing, reading, speaking, and listening; and the three sections of the Institutional paper-based TOEFL (PBT): listening, structure (grammar), and reading. This is a non-credit certificate course.

The course description for TOEFL Preparation is the same as that of the TOEFL Preparation / Introductory Level, but the course is appropriate only for students at a higher intermediate to advanced level.

Non-native speakers of English who take the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) are often at a disadvantage compared to native speakers of English. The purpose of this 30-hour, non-credit class is to familiarize international students with the GMAT, to provide guided practice in taking the test, supervised by an English-language specialist, and to give an introduction to the process of preparing for an MBA program. (Students taking GMAT/MBA Preparation should be enrolled in either the Advanced or University Bridge levels of ELA, or have received a TOEFL score of 520/Institutional, 190/Computer-based.)

This elective course is meant to improve students' vocabulary in three ways: by reinforcing a students ability to use known vocabulary accurately, by teaching new vocabulary-learning skills and by introducing decoding skills and strategies. Students will be introduced to approximately 25-30 new expressions and words per class.

Talking Business is an intensive course for non-native English speakers preparing for business school or expanding their careers in the business world. The course will focus on improving students' vocabulary, knowledge of key concepts in business and economics, and listening and speaking skills related to those concepts. Each day, students will have the opportunity to read and listen to authentic materials as well as to engage in lively, informative discussion.
